- 🌳 Native trees planted across the Ribble Catchment
- 🦫 New woodland habitat created for birds, insects, and mammals
- 💧 Improved river health through natural flood management and cleaner water
Across Lancashire, trees are quietly transforming the landscape.
With the support of Good Gifts donors, native trees are being planted in the Ribble Catchment, creating new woodland habitat that benefits wildlife, rivers, and local communities. These trees will grow into thriving woodlands that shelter birds, provide food for pollinators, and stabilise riverbanks.
Tree planting also plays a vital role in protecting rivers. Their roots help hold soil in place, reducing erosion and preventing sediment from washing into waterways. Leaves and branches provide shade that keeps rivers cool, creating better conditions for species such as Atlantic salmon and trout.
For the people who live and work in these landscapes, trees bring benefits too – helping slow rainwater during storms, reducing flood risk, and improving the beauty and biodiversity of the countryside for everyone to enjoy.
Volunteers play a key part in this work. From community groups and school pupils to regular volunteers who give their free time, Ribble Rivers Trust helps people connect with nature and rivers through tree planting days.
Each tree planted today is an investment in the future – growing stronger every year and supporting nature for generations to come.
“Planting trees like this helps bring life back to our landscapes. It’s amazing to think that the small trees we plant today will grow into woodlands that protect rivers, support wildlife, and benefit communities for decades.”
— Charlotte, Ribble Rivers Trust
Native tree planting helps restore natural ecosystems across the Ribble Catchment. Over time, these woodlands create habitat for birds, mammals, and insects; improve water quality by filtering pollutants; reduce soil erosion and protect riverbanks; slow rainfall and reduce flood risk; and capture carbon to support climate resilience. Together, these benefits help build healthier landscapes where wildlife and people can thrive.
Your gift of trees is helping grow healthier rivers, richer wildlife habitats, and greener landscapes across Lancashire.
This gift was delivered in partnership with Ribble Rivers Trust, a charity working across Lancashire to protect rivers, restore wildlife habitats, and reconnect people with nature throughout the Ribble Catchment.
