- 🎁 Life-changing cataract surgeries and prescription spectacles provided
- 👁️ Vision restored for elders, youth, and children across Cape Town’s Townships
- 💡 Greater independence, confidence, and access to opportunity
For many living in Cape Town’s Townships, accessing basic healthcare services is out of reach. Obstacles such as long waiting times, limited family income, and the cost of transport often mean that people are forced to live with treatable conditions for years without receiving the help they need – even a simple pair of spectacles.
Thanks to Good Gifts supporters, elders, youth and children are receiving life-changing cataract surgeries and prescription spectacles, transforming lives across Cape Town’s Townships.
This intervention does more than restore vision – it reclaims people’s independence, enabling them to read, learn and drive. A simple yet powerful intervention that brings back into focus the precious, everyday moments: cooking a meal, walking safely, and recognising the faces of loved ones again.
Poor vision limits a person’s ability to learn, participate in their community and thrive. This intervention may be a simple change, but for the person stepping back into the light, their world opens up – giving the elderly, children and youth their independence, confidence and access to a life of opportunity.
“Before the surgery, everything was blurry. I couldn’t read or recognise people. Now I can see clearly again.”
— Nolizwe Mdlalo, 65, Cape Town Township
