Emily is a non-verbal 10-year-old girl with severe and complex needs, who requires frequent and extended hospital admissions. She is often isolated due to medical complications, and experiences significant distress during treatment and procedures. Music plays a crucial role in her life as a primary motivator, communication channel and source of comfort.

Thanks to Good Gifts, during one recent admission of 100 days, she received vital music therapy sessions which provided emotional, sensory and social support.

The sessions also provided relief for her parents, knowing she had access to meaningful, specialised support during long admissions. It provided a space for family to connect with her away from the beeps and the distress of medical input – a place where her mum and dad can be playful and share happy times together as a family within the medical space.

The hospital team and family consider music therapy to be essential for Emily. Without the financial assistance provided, these sessions would not have been possible.

β€œIt’s one of the few activities that brings her joy and visibly improves her mood.”

For children who are anxious, isolated or in pain, music therapy can bring moments of calm and connection. For those who cannot communicate, music opens up a world of expression and conversation. For families, it offers hope, and the joy of seeing their child engage and respond in ways that words cannot capture.

Your gift of music will leave a lasting impact on a child and their families during the most challenging times.

This gift was delivered in partnership with Jessie’s Fund, which helps children who are seriously ill or disabled to express themselves and to communicate through music by connecting them and those who care for them with specialist musicians.
