- 🎁 Nutritious meals served daily across 17 Senior Clubs in Cape Town’s Townships
- 🧓 Elders supported with food, health screenings, and psychosocial care
- 💡 Opportunities to supplement pensions through craft-based activities
Many elders in Cape Town’s Townships live in abject poverty and carry the financial and emotional responsibility of caring for their grandchildren and children. This stretches their meagre pension thin, making it difficult to afford basic necessities like food.
Thanks to Good Gifts supporters, elders are receiving two nutritious meals a day across 17 Senior Clubs spread across Cape Town’s Townships.
More than meals, these clubs provide connection – and a space where the elderly access activities to stimulate cognition, vital health screenings, psychosocial support, and opportunities to supplement their pensions through the selling of craft-based products they produce.
Many of the elders in the townships struggle to access the support services they need and experience isolation, abuse and neglect. The Senior Clubs and the nutritious meals provided restore the elderly’s right to dignity – ensuring no senior is forgotten.
“There are days when I have nothing at home, but I know that by coming to Ikamva Labantu, I will not go hungry. For us, as people with no income, this is a blessing.”
