- π Landmine mapping and risk education in high-risk areas
- β οΈ Communities better informed about dangerous land
- π¨βπ©βπ§ Lebanese and Syrian families safer in their daily lives
Decades of conflict in Lebanon have left vast areas contaminated with landmines and unexploded weapons. Along the southern border and in parts of the north-east, dangerous devices remain hidden in fields, hillsides, and near homes β putting farmers, shepherds, and children at constant risk.
Through Good Gifts, the Mapping the Landmines gift helps our partners to identify contaminated land and deliver life-saving risk education. Community liaison teams work closely with local residents to gather information, map hazardous areas, and share clear safety messages about where it is safe – and unsafe – to go.
In 2020β21, despite severe disruption caused by COVID-19, Good Gifts support helped MAG deliver over 100 risk education sessions in southern Lebanon and the north-east, reaching nearly 600 people, almost half of them refugees. Innovative tools such as puppet shows and virtual reality were used to help children and adults recognise danger and learn safe behaviour.
Mapping and education do more than prevent accidents. They allow land to be safely cleared, reopened for farming and housing, and used to rebuild livelihoods.
Your gift of mapping the landmines helps families in Lebanon live more safely today – and supports a safer future for generations to come.
This gift was delivered in partnership with MAG (Mines Advisory Group), working to save lives and build futures in mine-affected communities.
