For many children living in Cape Town’s Townships, the hours after school – before their parents or caregivers return from work – are rife with substance abuse and crime, leaving them vulnerable to school dropout.
The Afternoon Angels are a remarkable group of women who have opened their homes to create safe spaces where these children can instead grow, learn, and dream beyond the hardships of township life.
Thanks to Good Gifts supporters, children are protected and achieve a brighter future for themselves across Cape Town’s Townships.
This is more than just afterschool supervision – it is a space where children access a nutritious meal, health and psychosocial support, and homework help. Safety Marshals, who are trained community-based workers, provide coaching and safe supervision of children while they access sport activities.
Through this afterschool care, children grow confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills while being kept safe, active and healthy. Secure afterschool care breaks the cycle of hardship and anchors this generation in hope.
