Through a five-day residential trip to Blackpool, vulnerable young people were given the opportunity to experience new environments, build friendships, and enjoy activities that many would otherwise never have the chance to access.
FARE Scotland took 24 young people and 12 staff to stay at a Haven caravan park, creating a safe and supportive environment where children could relax, have fun, and enjoy a break from the challenges many face at home. By covering the costs of the trip, the experience also provided valuable financial relief to families living in poverty or facing difficult circumstances.
Throughout the residential, the young people took part in a range of enriching activities that helped build confidence, independence, and social skills. They developed friendships, strengthened relationships, and created lasting shared memories while simply being able to enjoy time together as children.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the circus, which for many children was their very first experience of this kind. The young people watched talented performers, had their faces painted, met circus members after the show, and took part in group activities that filled the day with excitement and joy.
Following the circus visit, the group spent time at the seaside enjoying packed lunches they had prepared themselves, playing games on the beach, and sharing time together by the sea. For many of the children, these experiences opened up a wider world beyond their everyday surroundings and created memories they will carry with them for years to come.
“This has been the best week ever with my friends. I’ve done so many things and had a great laugh.”
“Who knew Blackpool could be so much fun. I loved staying in the caravan, choosing my own meals, and just being able to play. We went to the Pleasure Beach, the circus, and Sandcastle Waterpark, how cool is that!”
