- π A cow provided to a survivor family
- π₯ Reliable access to milk and nutrition
- πΌ Greater income and self-reliance
For survivors in rural Rwanda, owning livestock is more than a symbol of security β it is a pathway to health, income, and independence. Many families lost everything during the Genocide against the Tutsi, and without productive assets it can be difficult to meet basic needs or plan for the future.
Through Good Gifts, the gift of a cow supports survivors to regain this vital foundation. Cows provide nutritious milk for children and pregnant women, while surplus milk can be sold to cover school fees, healthcare, and household essentials. Manure also enriches soil, supporting crop production and long-term food security.
For Sibomana Felicien, a genocide survivor in Bugesera District, receiving a cow was something he never thought possible again.
βI could not think of having a cow again due to not being able to buy one,β he explains. βThis precious gift has added more value to my family.β
For Felicien and others, a cow represents renewed dignity, stability, and hope β helping families move beyond survival towards self-reliance.
Your gift of a cow helps survivors rebuild their lives with confidence and possibility.
This gift was delivered in partnership with Survivors Fund (SURF), supporting survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda to rebuild their lives with dignity, hope, and self-reliance.
